Bret Michaels brought "Nothin' But A Good Time" to Poughkeepsie

Yeah, admittedly, this is like a month-and-a-half later, but whatever! Better late than never...

Bret Michaels put on a great show in Poughkeepsie back on Feb. 22nd! (Yup, that's right: I go from writing about the New Kids on the Block to Poison's lead singer; it shows my eclectic taste in music!)

Now, if you can remember back to Feb. 22nd, you might remember we had the worst snow storm of the year; I mean, it was a blizzard. Well, once he got on stage, Bret made us forget about the misery outside while thanking us for trudging through it to make it to his show.

As soon as he hit the stage at around 10:45 p.m. to kick off the show with "Talk Dirty to Me," you could just see why this guy's been a rock star for more than 20 years. Between the crowd interaction and the enthusiasm Bret brought, you could tell he was grateful everyone showed up ... even if it meant about a half-full Civic Center due to the weather.

Here's Bret doing a little "Look What the Cat Dragged In"

Honestly, I was just happy to see him finally take the stage at close to 11 p.m., since the publicity material said the show was to start at 7, our tickets said 8, and just to be safe, I showed up at 7, only to sit through three warm-up acts.

When he finally did start his set, though, seemingly everyone in the place rushed the stage, making my eighth-row seat seem like less of a prize since folks from the waaaaay back just forced their way in front of me!

With that bad taste in my mouth, I decided to forgo my seat after a few songs, and watch the rest of the show from the cheap seats in the bleachers.

Considering how late it was (and how long I'd been at the Civic Center following a full day of work), I left about mid-way through Bret's set. I did, though, stay long enough to hear him belt out Poison's "Something To Believe In" and a cover of "Sweet Home Alabama."

All in all, Bret put on a really good show for everyone who was brave enough to show up. It was pretty cool to see this guy who I spoke to only three days before and was all calm on the phone turn into this seemingly bigger-than-life rock star on stage.

On a side note, even "Big John" (he of VH1's "Rock of Love" fame) was there, signing autographs and posing for pictures out in the lobby, shedding his charisma-free persona he plays on the reality show.

P.S.: Sorry, Mary in Tampa, I didn't get a chance to meet Bret after the show. I was tired!

It sounds as if Bret put on a show that was more than worth the blizzard and late hour! We are heading to Charlotte later this month to see him and were also wondering what time he actually takes the stage. Maybe we'll opt to stay overnight in Charlotte. We're hoping for a 'chance' meeting (i.e., locating the tour bus and waiting, if we don't get chased off by Big John!). Hopefully, we'll get lucky with autographs and nice photos!
